ELFT has been working with system partners over the last year to co-design a revised Emotional Wellbeing Service, currently provided by CHUMS, to meet the needs of local communities and increase the number of young people accessing effective support.
The new specification has been designed to increase early access to help and support as part of an integrated system, aligned to each place-based school, primary care and local authority early help and prevention offer across Bedfordshire and Luton.
The Emotional Wellbeing Service will be provided by CHUMS until 31 May 2024. ELFT will align the new service with their CAMHS Integrated schools pathway from 1 June 2024.
ELFT remain committed to ensure young people, parents/carers and professionals understand how to access the right support should they present with any emotional health needs.
ELFT structures the CAMHS services based on the below IThrive model to ensure the right support is accessed at the right time according to presenting clinical need and risk:
The easiest way of accessing direct support is via a self-referral into the CAMHS Single Point of Entry (SPOE) team (this includes all professional EHCP requests).
The specialist clinical team triage all referrals on a daily basis and allocate according to risk into the most appropriate clinical pathway within the system – this may include signposting to a range of self-help apps and/or work with other CVS partners who are best placed to offer specialist support to meet individual needs:.
Details on how to refer into SPOE are provided in the below links:

In addition to referring into SPOE, the CAMHS Access Pathway has never been more accessible than it is today with a number of mental health clinicians aligned to GP practices, based within local schools and the increasing development of the Mental Health Support Teams across boroughs.
To support families waiting well and develop resilience there is a range of useful psychoeducation programmes; evidenced based self-help apps and the CAMHS Discovery College prospectus are all available on ELFT’s website for families to access.
There may be other entry points to accessing support depending on clinical need, this may include accessing crisis support on 111 option 2 or if you require medical intervention the local A&E dept, where you will also be assessed via the CAMHS crisis pathway once medically fit.
