Blood tests requested by your GP are taken at Gilbert Hitchcock House, Kimbolton Road (North Wing). These are for patients over 16 years of age.

Patients must attend these appointments with a blood request form issued by the GP.

Please come to the Phlebotomy department five minutes before your booked appointment time.

Monday to Friday: 8am – 4:20pm. All phlebotomy services are closed at weekends and Bank Holidays.

Please support us on the day by wearing appropriate clothing for your blood test and by removing your coat/jacket before entering the room.

How to book a blood test at Gilbert Hitchcock House

  1. To book an appointment online (booking service available 24/7), patients need to register first at https://myappointments.online  (please choose location as Bedford then choose Gilbert Hitchcock House North Wing)
  2. Book an appointment via the automated phone booking line 01234 607075 (booking service available 24/7)
  3. You can book an appointment by phone and speak to a receptionist by calling 01234 792160 – Monday to Friday between 10am and 3pm.

Anticoagulation clinic patients

INR blood tests are taken Monday to Thursday, 8am – 10am.

This is a walk in service for anticoagulation patients only as INR. Appointments are pre-booked by the anticoagulation clinic. Patients should bring their anticoagulation dosage letter/tear off strip along with them when they attend for their blood test.

Paediatric blood tests

Register with your child’s details, and book online at: www.bedfordpaediatrics.sangix.co.uk. Blood tests are by appointment only.

If you cannot book an urgent appointment within 1-2 weeks time, your child has additional needs, and for fasting, genetics and hormone tests, please speak to our paediatric outpatient team Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm by calling 01234 730421.

Outpatients walk in blood test service

The Phlebotomy outpatient blood test department is located at Bedford Hospital, Kempston Road (South Wing), please follow the signs to outpatients.

This phlebotomy service is for patients who have been seen in an outpatient clinic. Patients who have been seen by their GP are seen at Gilbert Hitchcock House (GHH).

Your blood test form needs to be given to you by an outpatient doctor or nurse. Please bring this form with you. This outpatient phlebotomy service is open Monday – Friday 9am – 4.20pm.
