Once again, we held our annual Macmillan Mammoth Quiz at Parkside Hall, Ampthill, on Friday 27th February 2027, raising almost £950, for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We had eight teams with 61 people attending the evening, beginning with a free lucky table prize to win some chocolates, followed by 44 joining in with the ‘Heads and Tails’ game. The quiz questions had been set by The Oundle committee, a family team who write the questions in memory of their wife and mother and provide nationally to all groups who participate in this quiz. The eight rounds of questions were set around a celebration of some of the nation’s favourite quiz and game shows on TV, with each round themed to the name of the show.
Winning team – ‘Be Social’
The winners this year were Be Social and were presented with bottles of wine and chocolates, with last place going to The Powerhouse, presented with a wooden spoon and a bag of lemons! Once more Chameleon Creative Ltd kindly sponsored the prizes for the evening, for the games and the winning and losing team, and our thanks go to them for their continued generosity in supporting the quiz.

The kindness of the local businesses in Silsoe and Ampthill, as well as staff, directors, volunteers and supporters of Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire, meant we had 26 prizes for our raffle, selling £275 worth of raffle tickets to attendees, in the hope of winning one of these marvellous prizes. We were extremely grateful for their donations which contributed to the success of the evening, with winners able to choose from the selection of fabulous prizes from the organisations below:

To help put your gift into perspective, a contribution of £961.42 could support the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line for one hour. In this time, they could support 8 people affected by cancer and provide a wide range of specialist information such as how to manage side effects, treatment options, living with cancer, and coping with grief. This is truly valuable work with great impact, so I hope you’ll share our gratitude with each of the wonderfully kind people who contributed to this donation/made it possible.
