Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) have just launched a public consultation on their draft special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) strategy for 2025 to 2028.

The draft new strategy sets out six key priorities aimed at improving the lives and outcomes for children and young people up to 25 years old who have SEND.

These priorities focus on making sure the right support is available at the right time and that education, health, and community services work together to meet families’ needs.

Our six priorities are:

  • Person-centred and locally available education provision
  • A local area partnership that works well together
  • A skilled, supported, and inclusive workforce and community
  • Clear pathways for support and meaningful transitions
  • Children and young people receive the right support at the right time
  • Inclusive and accessible community opportunities

CBC are hosting a series of consultation events across Central Bedfordshire so they can hear directly from you about their draft SEND strategy for 2025 to 2028 – see our Events page

How CBC developed their draft strategy

This strategy has been carefully developed following conversations with parent carers, professionals, and families who shared their experiences and challenges with the Council.

Their feedback has helped shape this plan, which will be supported by a detailed action plan to turn these priorities into real, positive changes.

The consultation launched on 10 July and will be open until 1 October 2025. CBC would love to hear from parent carers, professionals, and anyone who has an interest or experience with SEND in Central Bedfordshire.
