We’re Still Here for You: What the Government’s Plans Mean for Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire

Statement

You may have seen recent announcements about proposed changes to the Healthwatch network. The Government has now published the Dash review, which recommends:

  • Transferring the functions of Healthwatch England to the Department of Health and Social Care, and
  • Moving the work of local Healthwatch services into Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and local authorities.

The Government has accepted these recommendations and has said that it will introduce legislation to make them happen — but not immediately.

So what does this mean for Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire?

No Immediate Change – We’re Still Open and Active

We want to reassure our residents, partners, and community groups that Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire continues to operate as usual. We are still here, listening to your experiences, sharing your feedback with decision-makers, and helping people navigate local health and social care services.

The Department of Health and Social Care has advised that, until new legislation is passed, local authorities will continue to commission local Healthwatch services. This means our role and responsibilities remain unchanged — for now.

Our Commitment to You

We understand that some recent national coverage may have caused concern or confusion. To be clear: there is no immediate closure of local Healthwatch services.

In Central Bedfordshire, we continue to:

  • Listen to what matters to you about your experiences with GPs, hospitals, social care, and more
  • Share your feedback with those in charge of planning and delivering services
  • Provide advice and information to help you find the care and support you need

As more details emerge from the Government about the future of Healthwatch, we will keep you updated. In the meantime, you can continue to rely on us to ensure your voice is heard where it matters.
