We are delighted to share the very welcome news that the Government has announced it will withdraw plans to abolish local Healthwatch organisations and Healthwatch England.
Instead, Healthwatch will be retained and strengthened, recognising the vital importance of ensuring that patients, Carers and communities have an independent voice in shaping health and social care services.
This is fantastic news for the people of Central Bedfordshire and a recognition of the important role Healthwatch plays in listening to local experiences, championing people’s views and helping to improve services.
“This is incredibly welcome news, not just for Healthwatch, but for the people and communities we represent.
The past 18 months have brought considerable uncertainty, but throughout this time our commitment to listening to local people and ensuring their voices are heard has never wavered.
I am immensely proud of our staff, volunteers and Board, who have continued to champion the experiences of our communities with dedication and professionalism.
This announcement recognises the vital importance of having a strong, independent voice for patients and the public. We now have a real opportunity to build on what we have achieved, strengthen our influence and ensure that the experiences of people across Central Bedfordshire continue to shape the health and social care services they rely on.
Most importantly, I want our communities to know that we are here, we are listening, and your voice matters.”
Diana Blackmun, Chief Executive Officer
