The CQC are currently seeking feedback from people of ethnic minority backgrounds with long-term physical health conditions who use healthcare services in primary and secondary care.
Long Term Conditions are defined as:
A diagnosis that is permanent, but the symptoms of which can be controlled by medication and/or other treatment therapies. Long term conditions do of course include depression and other mental health related problems, however; for the purposes of this testing period, and the scope of the pilot the CQC are focussing on long term physical health conditions only. This is because treatment for people experiencing mental health problems can often be undertaken in service sectors outside those defined as primary and secondary care for the purposes of this testing; for example, community care services or mental health hospitals.
Primary Care
Primary Care services often provide the first point of contact in the healthcare system. Primary Care service can include GP and dental providers, as well as non-CQC registered services such as opticians and community pharmacies. For the purposes of this testing period, the CQC are focussing on gathering feedback on care and treatment by GP providers, including routine screening and monitoring.
Secondary Care
Sometimes referred to as hospital and community care, secondary care provides both elective (planned) treatment and urgent and emergency care. For the purposes of this testing period, the CQC are focussed on gathering feedback on care and treatment in hospitals, including planned treatment, urgent care, and routine monitoring.
