Central Bedfordshire Council has launched a consultation on its Local Council Tax Support Scheme (LCTS) for working-age claimants.

The consultation – which opened on Wednesday 26th November and closes on Wednesday 7th January 2026 gives residents the opportunity to share their views on proposed changes to the scheme before a decision is made. Information about the consultation can be found here Council Tax Support Scheme consultation 2025 | Central Bedfordshire Council and paper copies have been distributed to all Libraries and to community partner organisations such as Beds RCC, DRC, Citizens Advice and Carers in Beds.

The Council is consulting on proposals to reduce the amount of Council Tax support, it provides to working-age claimants. Under the proposals they would receive less support and would be required to pay more than they do now. Pensioners would be unaffected by the proposed changes.

The proposals are made in anticipation of a reduction in government funding, forcing the Council to look again at the affordability of discretionary discounts so that the Council can continue to fund the ever-increasing costs of providing essential statutory services to everyone.

Please do participate in the consultation, read the proposals and complete the questionnaire which you can do online, at a Library or with a community partner organisation.
