Healthwatch England has published research – Lost for words: Improving access to healthcare for ethnic minority communities – as part of the #YourCareYourWay campaign.
This work was carried out jointly between a group of local Healthwatch and Healthwatch England to help inform the review of the Accessible Information Standard currently being carried out by NHS England/Improvement.
People who speak little or no English struggle to get the healthcare they need if they’re not given the right communication support. The NHS Act 2006 puts a clear duty on healthcare services to reduce inequalities for patients who are not able to speak English. But the new research shows people don’t always get the support they need.
