Our Youth Engagement & Volunteer Officer, Anna, shares her experience of presenting at the ‘Safety Squad’, Cedars School, Leighton Buzzard.

I was invited by Vanessa Ropke, a road safety education officer with Central Bedfordshire council to support a ‘Safety Squad’ Event at Cedars Upper School on 16th and 17th of July. This was for year 9 & 10 students at Cedars School in Leighton Buzzard.

Group photoWe developed a rolling timetable where students will move around from service to service, where they will receive a 30-minute session on a specialist subject.

I delivered the mental health session and presented to, and engaged with, students to learn about mental health and how to look after it.

Students learnt about the 5 steps to mental wellbeing and engaged in a 5-minute meditation and extended creative activity. Students drew, coloured in, and made objects out of paper, including origami and A LOT of paper aero planes.

Students said they enjoyed the session, especially the meditation, with some sharing their creations with me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the two days spent at the school and can’t wait to visit again.

This was a brilliant initiative by the Road Safety Team, and it was an honour to be part of the ‘Safety Squad’.
