Local Healthwatch across Beds, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) are aware that some of our communities cannot access the internet, and some are digitally excluded, through lack of skill, access to technology or not having a desire to engage in that way. However, reaching these people and understanding their views is just as vital as for those that can engage digitally.
We want to engage with seldom heard communities, those people who face barriers when trying to access health and social care services, which includes the D/deaf community. The aim of the project is to improve service provision by highlighting health and social care challenges, issues and concerns, specifically raised by local residents who are seldom heard.
We would like to hear from people who may be profoundly deaf, have acquired hearing loss or impairment, to ask them questions like ‘what does good care look like’ and ‘what improvements they would like to see to enable them to access the care they need’ plus questions relating to their experience of accessing services pre and post pandemic, including ‘how has the pandemic changed their views of health and social care services’.
